ALS written by Colonel Albert Sidney Johnston, commander of the United States Army 2nd Cavalry, to Adjutant General Colonel Samuel Cooper. In response to instructions from the Secretary of War, Johnston reports his recommendations for changes in Texas army posts. Johnston recommends permanent maintenance of the the current line of posts protecting settlements from attacks by American Indians. He describes problems of preventing Indian attacks, discussing locations for additional posts and recommending removal of Indians from Texas to Choctaw lands in Indian Territory.
